Perioperative management of neurosurgical patients receiving chronic anticoagulation therapy

چکیده
In all neurosurgical cases associated with anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy, perioperative antithrombotic management of patients is complicated due to increased risks of intraand/or postoperative bleeding or thromboembolic complications. The potential risk of thrombosis may increase when anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy is stopped perioperatively. On the other hand, perioperative hemorrhage may occur more often when anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy is continued. In general, the contraindications to anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy include:

Perioperative anticoagulation management in patients who are receiving oral anticoagulant therapy: a practical guide for clinicians.
The management of patients who require temporary interruption of oral anticoagulant therapy because of surgery or other invasive procedures is a clinically important topic because of the increasing prevalence of patients who are receiving oral anticoagulants and the availability of low-molecular-weight heparins (LMWHs), which allow out-of-hospital perioperative anticoagulation. The optimal mana...

The management of patients who require temporary interruption of warfarin therapy because of elective surgery or another invasive procedures is clinically important because of the increasing prevalence of patients who are receiving warfarin and the availability of low-molecular-weight heparins, which facilitate out-of-hospital perioperative anticoagulation. The two main issues that need to be c...
متن کاملA Call to Reduce the Use of Bridging Anticoagulation.
Because of the recent publication of several important studies, there has been a major change in how we think about perioperative management of anticoagulation. Because of these changes, existing consensus guidelines are suddenly out of date and can no longer be used as is, particularly the 2012 American College of Chest Physicians Antithrombotic Guidelines, version 9. We estimate that well ove...

The perioperative management of patients treated with antithrombotic medications who undergo surgical procedures represents a common clinical problem. Dental interventions are usually associated with a low risk of bleeding; however, the dental implications of new antithrombotic agents are not yet fully understood. The present review is based on the latest evidence and recommendations published ...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Effectiveness of Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Stress Management Training for Patients with Chronic Tension Headache
A growing body of theoretical and empirical literature on stress has established a good basis for conceptualizing headache as a psychophysiological disorder and led to the application of different contemporary therapies for headache. The present clinical trial intervention aimed to compare the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation and stress management training techniques in relieving ...
